HOMEOSTASIS
LEARNING
OBJECTIVES
1.
Explain homeostasis. Relate
how certain organs play key roles in its maintenance.
2.
Find and identify the organs important in homeostasis.
3.
What is the basic anatomy and physiology of these organs?
4.
Beginning this week, stress comprehension—“in your own words”.
Have each person in your group explain, in their own words, what homeostasis is.
Write your group’s definition for homeostasis.
Follow this link, read and discuss the material with your group: Feedback

ORGANS OF HOMEOSTASIS
Task 2. Examine Lungs
Discuss with your group the primary functions of the lungs.
Take this link, read the material, then return: respiratory
Discuss what you just read and put it in your own words here:
Return and look at the picture noting the structures and functions: respiratory
What are the blackened-out structures and their function?

Do procedure 11.1 in your book answering all questions.

Task 3. Examine Liver
Discuss with your group the major functions of the liver.
Take this link and review liver function: Liver
Discuss what you have just learned and put the information here, in your own words:
Do procedure 11.2 in your book answering all questions. Stop after "Liver Function"

Task 4. Examine Kidney
Discuss with your group the major functions of the kidney.
Examine the kidney structures and functions in section 11.3, figures 11.4 and 11.5. Discuss the parts and what they do with your group.
What are the parts of this picture and their functions? Also, look at a model kidney as well.

What are the parts of the nephron below and their function?

Examine "Kidney Function" up to "Urinalysis" answering all questions.

Task 5. Examine these organs together.
Use one of the mannequins to find all the organs discussed today. Make sure to talk about the sub-structures and their functions.
Look at the last page of the lab labeled "Homeostasis". Answer these questions and the review questions except for the capillary exchange question.
